USWAR/Large-sized
warplane violates Iranian airspace again
Arvand-Kenar, March 22, IRNA -- A large-sized British or US warplane
violated Iranian airspace in this border region across from Iraq's
Al-Faw Peninsula on Saturday, as the number of such violations since
Friday rose.
The aircraft, which flew on a low altitude, patrolled the sky for
several minutes, sending several flashes, before heading towards the
besieged Basra city in southern Iraq at 19:22 (1452 GMT).
Abadan governor, Jamal Alemi, said Friday that US warplanes had
violated the Iranian airspace above the city five times Friday night.
There were reports of further violations earlier Saturday in
Arvand-Kenar.
On Friday, three Iranians were injured after a straying US plane
fired a rocked into an oil depot in the southwestern city of Abadan.
Two more American rockets hit the village of Manyuhi in
Arvand-Kenar Saturday, a military commander in the region said.
The Islamic Republic has taken a position of "active neutrality"
in the US war against Iraq but it has condemned the invasion.
Iran on Friday strongly objected to the violation of its airspace
by summoning Swiss ambassador, which takes care of US interests here,
as well as British ambassador.
